May These Whispers Turn Into Armour

In May These Whispers Turn Into Armour, Jorge Mañes Rubio transforms the iconic Andalusian chair into a sculptural vessel of memory and protection. Hand-finished in white plaster and adorned with thousands of glass beads, the piece functions as a ritual object, a relic, a whispered invocation.

A radiant pomegranate unfurls on the front, symbolizing of protection and prosperity, while a many-eyed celestial being unfurls across the backrest, guardian of unseen realms. Eleven tiny talismans dangle from the frame: ceramic ex-votos in the shapes of hands, feathers, vessels… each resonating with silent power and ancestral presence.

Transcending its familiar form, this labor-intensive sculpture celebrates home as a space of care, resistance, and protection.
